Why Media London was pleased to be commissioned on the new Vale International Group brand and website development in May 2016, following a three way pitch process, Why Media were awarded the work to create a fully responsive website as well as to establish and create branding for this exciting new international investment company Vale International Group (VIG). We also added value by negotiating URL’s and setting up and consulting on the IT infrastructure.

VIG is a global company with partners based in London, Hong Kong and Singapore, and the brief tied in well with Why Media’s heritage in Asia as a leading design and marketing agency. VIG aim is to generate returns for shareholders through acquisitions of disruptive technology companies focusing mainly on the financial sector. VIG’s core focus is within a rapidly expanding and ever changing market, it is at the heart of their philosophy to seek innovative and game-changing technologies that have a high growth/ return potential. It was imperative that the identity for this new business fitted in well with the “international and local space”.

In today’s competitive market, a strong brand is paramount to a company's success. Branding goes way beyond just a logo or graphic element. It now involves the entire customer experience of a company and should communicate the company's core beliefs and values. Having thoroughly researched company culture and background, Why Media’s team of talented graphic designers and marketeers thought it only fitting that the company branding design reflected not only the key company values and purpose, but also took into account marketing and design trends that were present in the environments in which Vale operates.

From a technical point of view, designing websites and branding for different markets should be more or less the same process. From an innovative design point of view, the processes couldn’t be more different. For an Asian Market, the culture is high context. High value is placed on communication through non-verbal methods to relay meaningful information. In many cases the non-verbal elements are more important than the actual words that are communicated.

Taking these trends into account during the initial design process and following discussions with the client, Why Medias graphic designers decided the branding and website would be primarily visually focused with simple yet eye catching themes and pantones. The main priority was to communicate a clear and concise message without being overpowering. The final design takes inspiration from asian culture as the colour red is said to symbolise luck and good fortune. Graphics were inspired by technology and the digital age. The website model is clean, precise and heavily visually focused. The website is easily navigated with clear points of action. Costa Demetriou, graphic designer at Why Media said “The Vale International Group project was an exciting one to be a part of. As a designer at Why Media, we place high priority on challenging ourselves and taking on campaigns and projects that require new ways of thinking and extensive research and the Vale project involved just that. It was a welcomed challenge but in the end we came up with a design that we were really proud of”
